Only those students proceed to the interview, who have cleared the written examination.

Note: Interview for the candidates applying for January 2014 batch will be conducted on October 7th 2013. Students will be informed of the venue by their respective States in early September 2013.

Top salary offer of Rs 19 lakh per annum at Delhi's St Stephen's beats average IIM salaries

 MUMBAI:  Delhi's St Stephen's College has reported a top salary offer of Rs 19 lakh per annum for a student graduating this year, beating previous records and even topping average salaries offered at the leading Indian Institutes of Management.

The offer, made by an international bank for a job at its India operations, is about a third higher than last year's top offer of Rs 14.30 lakh. The average salary at Delhi University's elite college, which counts Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and ministers Shashi Tharoor and Salman Khurshid among its notable alumni, too is up 30% over the previous year at more than Rs 8.5 lakh a year.

The average salary at Stephen's, where the placement season is still on, is close to the Rs 9-10 lakh offered at the newer IIMs in Trichy, Raipur, Ranchi and Rohtak while the highest offer is more than the Rs 14-17 lakh average pay for freshers at the leading IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta.

"We have added almost 20-30% to our list of recruiters. Most notably, this year has seen a surge in interest from consulting companies," says N Raghunathan, head of the college's economics department and staff advisor in its campus placement cell.

These offers mark continuation of a four-year-old trend in which recruiters are straying beyond their traditional picking grounds of management and engineering colleges to hunt talent at regular undergraduate, albeit prestigious, institutions. In 2011, Deutsche Bank made a Rs 39-lakh job offer to a student of Delhi's Shri Ram College of Commerce for an overseas position.

 Recruiters Make a Beeline
McKinsey, Bain, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, Monitor (Deloitte) Group, DE Shaw, Google, Essex Lake Group, ITC, Jaypee Group, Zomato and Max New York Life Insurance are some firms that have been among the regular recruiters on campuses.

St Stephen's this year has seen firms such as AT Kearney, Goldman Sachs, Pernod Ricard (international), Swiss Re (international), Technoserve, Aptivaa Consulting and MXV Consulting for the first time.

Students from both economics and mathematics streams received lucrative offers while a significant number of graduating students from pure arts (history, philosophy, English) and pure sciences (physics, chemistry) opted for higher studies.

The college had hosted the university's first internship fair last year, allowing it to reach out to a number of companies. "This not only helped us attract more recruiters, but also with these internships, students were able to make a stronger applicant profile, making them suitable for better recruiters. We were later able to convince some of the same to come back for placements," says Satyaki Dhar, vice-president of the campus placement cell.

 Several firms hire exclusively from St Stephen's in the non-engineering undergraduate domain, belying the notion that high pay packages are the preserve of B-schools.

The placement season, which started on October 8, will continue until April 15. "Of course, there are many recruiters yet to come and the rise in average salary should settle at around 15-20% over the previous years," said Dhar.

On average, the recruiters hired two-three students each, the industry standard followed by consulting and banking firms even at most top technology colleges in the country. Although most of these students have been hired for entry-level jobs, many multinational companies have accelerated growth programmes for graduates that place the students alongside management graduates within two years.
